Hope was a terrific colleague and scholar, dedicated to art education and the preparation of art teachers. I had the opportunity to work with many of her students and I know how much they valued her as a model and inspiration. The Saturday morning workshops she organized for children and her students were wonderful for learning by all. I attended many of their exhibition-fairs and always came away delighted. Hope lives on in the many art teachers whose work continues to reflect her influence.

Hope led such a meaningful life, bringing an artistic eye to her teaching of university as well as school children. While a professor and department chair she ran a creative weekly art program for children and youth who in turn went on to make art, to visit art museums, and often to careers in the arts. She could be blunt, impassioned, and tireless as she pushed for wide access to arts. We sometimes argued about art, but that's the point, she cared deeply about the place of art in society and also about particular kinds of art, and our conversations about art often come back to me. Hope lived a life of purpose. So many of us benefitted from her passion. I will continue to think often of her influence and generosity.
