Obituary of Albert John Turnmyre

Albert John Turnmyre, 79, passed away suddenly after a brief illness on 3.23.23 at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, NY.  Born on March 12, 1944, he was the son of Marie Anne Shay and Albert Recktor Turnmyre.

AJ, as we called him, attended Auburn Community College after high school, then earned a degree in economics from SUNY Cortland after serving as military police in Germany during the Vietnam war.  Upon returning, he graduated from SUNY Brockport with another degree in economics.

He was an avid Syracuse basketball fan and a lover of nature, having kept bees for many years.  He was consistently accompanied by a loyal canine friend to fill his heart (and truck bed). 

He is survived by his sibling Marie Stevens, adored his beloved nieces, Natalie Dart and Ashley Zapach (Timothy); nephew, Wilson Stevens III and great nephew, Peter.  He leaves behind his beloved dog Molly.

Services will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Marcellus Food Pantry 1 East Main Street, Marcellus, NY 13108.
