Obituary of Mary Ellen Corso
Mary Ellen Corso of Syracuse passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2023. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary Ellen was born on December 16, 1931 to Francis Michael Sheehan and Mary Victoria (Duhamel) Sheehan.
Mary Ellen was the kindest person you would meet. She appreciated everything she had and was generous to all who knew her. Her greatest joys were the times she spent with her family.
She was a proud alumnus of the Convent School. She worked for the New York Telephone Company and retired after 33 years. After moving to Florida for a few years with her family, they returned to New York and Mary Ellen started a second career with the Carrier Corporation and retired after 17 years. In her retirement from Carrier, she volunteered with the American Red Cross and was awarded the Partnership Award in 2010.
Mary Ellen and her husband were long-time parishioners of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart where she was a member of the Rosary Society.
She enjoyed traveling to her family’s home in Daytona Beach. She and her husband also often traveled to Las Vegas to visit friends, gamble in the casinos and see their favorite entertainers and shows. She was a lifelong fan of SU football and basketball and would also watch her beloved Yankees as often as she could.
The family would like to thank her caregivers Karen, Lisa and Shelly and also Hospice of CNY who allowed her to stay in the comfort of her home during this difficult time.
Mary Ellen is predeceased by her husband of 57 years Lawrence Corso and her sister Margaret Sheehan. She is survived by her daughter Theresa Corso (Dan Blaise) of Camillus, a son August Corso of Fayetteville, NC, a son Dr. Lawrence (Lisa) of Camillus, granddaughters Lauren Corso, Amanda Miccio (Eric), Morgan Corso, grandsons Daniel Corso, Cory Corso, great-grandsons Luca Miccio and Jack Miccio.
Visitation will be held on Thursday May 25, 4:00-6:00PM at Hollis Funeral Home, 1105 W. Genesee St., Syracuse. A funeral mass will be held on Friday May 26, 9:30 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse.
