Obituary of Bradley Middleton
Bradley D. Middleton, M.D. passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2023, at the age of 34 with his wife Liz Middleton and medical colleagues of SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital by his side. Brad recently completed his residency training as an emergency medicine physician at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, where he lived with his wife Liz and their three children.
Although seemingly cut short, Brad lived an extraordinary life. He was born in Glens Falls, NY and grew up in Queensbury, NY where he enjoyed playing football, lacrosse, and skiing at the local mountain. He started dating Liz when they were in high school. Knowing that he always wanted to be a doctor, he got his undergraduate degree from Ithaca College followed by his medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He was a devoted physician who helped to save countless lives during his career. His peers remember him as being a kind, compassionate and calm presence despite the many stressors of balancing work and family. When he came home at the end of a long shift, Brad rarely allowed the chaos of the Emergency Department to follow him. He was "daddy" the minute he left the hospital. His legacy will carry on through the work of his family and colleagues.
Brad is survived by: his wife, Liz, their three children, Penelope 3, Mae 2, and Vander 1 month, as well as the family’s beloved pets, Dexter and Daisy; his parents, David and Theresa Middleton; his sister and her husband, Melanie and Ben Romer and their daughter Juliette; Liz's parents, David and Laura West; and his brother-in-law and wife, Stephen and Allison West. Brad was extremely close to extended relatives on both sides of his family, and he will be greatly missed and remembered by his numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Brad's life will be held at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown on Sunday September 10, 2023, in Syracuse NY, from 3-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the GoFundMe set up for “The Family of Bradley Middleton."
