Obituary of Joseph William Hall Jr

Joseph W Hall Jr, age 70, passed away on Monday, October 9th at home surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was the husband of Michele Read Hall.  They shared 41 years of marriage together and 3 children. 

Born in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of Joseph W Hall Sr and Malveane Ketaily. He was a graduate of Thomas J. Corcoran High School. He was employed as an over the road truck driver for many years having visited 47 out of 50 states, including Alaska.  In his younger years, he was a part time DJ at WNDR radio where he took on the personality of Tyrone Shoes. He then ran his own DJ business for many years.  He was a member of the Mattydale VFW Post 3146 Auxiliary where he also took on the role as manager and bar steward. He enjoyed a wide variety of music, as well as singing karaoke. Some of his hobbies included gardening, flea markets, auctions, sitting outside, family time, road trips, and surfing the internet.  Many people knew him as Handsome Joe.  Joe was a very active member in his community.  He ran the Park Ave Neighborhood Watch for over 20 years.  Joe had great relationships with countless community leaders. He took great pride in his family and was very proud of his children's accomplishments.  His greatest titles in life were husband, Dad and Papa.  He was tremendously adored by his grandchildren.  

He is survived by his wife, Michele Read Hall, his children, Elizabeth (Richard) Wilmer, Melissa Williams, Bradley Sr (Jamisha) Hall, and 15 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his siblings, Bruce Hall, Gloria Fletcher, Paul Hall, Robin Jones, Wendy Moran, Martin Kirby Sr, Russell Hall and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Calling hours will be on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 3-5pm at Hollis Funeral Home, 1105 West Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13204. 

A Celebration of life will immediately follow at the Mattydale VFW Post 3146 on the corner of LeMoyne and Factory Ave.

The family would like to specially thank Nurse Michele Hettler from Nascentia for her extra care and compassion.  They would also like to personally thank MJ Morales for all of the care she dedicated and nonsense she put up with throughout the years.  

Joe will always be remembered for being a very generous man and looking out for others before himself.  He was very honest when he spoke and let everyone know how he felt.  Even though Papa was rough around the edges, he still had love and compassion for others and will be truly missed.
