Obituary of Brian Robert Hunt

Brian Robert Hunt, 40, died suddenly in his East Syracuse home on December 31, 2023.

Brian spent his life strolling to the beat of his own drum in the suburbs of Syracuse, NY. He was fortunate to forge strong, lifelong friendships with people who truly loved and accepted him. Brian always surprised people with his abilities to create harmony just about anywhere, and to win an argument in the most unexpected way possible. He was an excellent driver.

Prior to the pandemic he enjoyed karaoke at Singers, Renaissance festivals, traveling with his partner, Magic the Gathering tournaments, and lively discussions at Roji. More recently he enjoyed observing the active squirrel community around his house, video games with friends, disability and political activism, and creating intellectually challenging desserts for his loved ones to enjoy. The only thing bigger than Brian's voice was his heart, which he gave freely. 

Brian is survived by his loving, supportive partner of 14 years, Missy Dewalt, mother, Diane Castro, his dearest friend, Andy Wartooth, sister, Rachel Ansari (Steve), brother Shawn Castro, nephews Leon, Eli, and August and niece Ada. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hunt Jr., and his beloved cats.

A memorial service will be held Monday, January 8 from 5-8 pm at The Town Shop, 67 Main Street Camillus, NY 13031.
