I am devastated! Wojtek was my very close colleague and friend when we started our scientific adventure. In those old, memorable days we have been sharing the same remote, small office at the Jagellonian University. It was there, that I was witnessing the emergence of his everlasting discoveries. Instantly he was sharing all of them with us and it was immediately obvious that something big was going on. QCD was just in the making, details were murky for many, but Wojtek was basically creating all of this by himself, just from his head!
Those were truly beautiful days - “To były piękne dni…” - as goes one of the Polish old songs.
Imagine that now, about forty years later, just two-three weeks before his unexpected passing, I have received an automatic notification from one of the scientific portals, that Wojtek has been peeking recently in one of my papers on the subject of our common interest in those old times! This was happening without us having any contact for all these past years! I would not dare to make any interpretation of this “divine coincidence”, but the memory of it will stay with me to the end of my days.
