I have many memories of spending time with Jim. My best memory is that I always smiled when I saw him. His presence made me happy. He was so kind and gentle, but rose to the occasion when more than gentle was necessary. He had endless patience, which was no easy task with the crew we ran with. I guess my best memories are from the trip a group of us made to Martha’s Vineyard, in an RV dubbed the MoHo. Jim drove most of the time. We had a cottage on the island. On the ride back to Vineyard Haven from a booze cruise around the island out of OB, we gave a couple maybe 17 year olds a ride. Someone told them Jim had inherited money and was driving around the country picking up people along the way. Jim jumped right in with a back story and we each made up cities he picked us up in. They were very excited and wanted to join us, so Jim very delicately broke the news to them that we were kidding. The way he did it was perfect. They got it, were disappointed, but not sad or mad. That was Jim. He made everything ok. We’ll miss you Hawk!
