Obituary of Ronald Morrissey
Ronald Allen Morrissey (72) passed away April 11, 2024 after a brief illness. He was previously residing at Sedgewick Heights in Syracuse, NY, where he was well cared for and comfortable. Born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, he was the son of James and Mary (Elfering) Morrissey. He was the eighth of 14 children! His family later moved to Ohio and New Jersey, eventually settling in Vermont, where Ron always considered home - especially on the ski slopes. Ron will be remembered for his great love of Philadelphia sports teams, his competitive spirit at the annual family Thanksgiving football game, and his pride in his children. He and his ex-wife, Julie (Arnold) Morrissey raised 3 children in Crown Point, NY where Ron was very active in the local sports teams. He was hard to miss on the sidelines, always cheering loudly for the Panthers. He was particularly passionate about soccer and eventually dove into reenergizing the Crown Point Youth Commission Soccer Program. He had a lifelong career in construction/carpentry and was a member of the New England Carpenter’s Union. He loved starting projects and began many custom updates to their Crown Point home, notably stone and tile work. In his later years, Ron could often be found indulging in a few of Syracuse’s greatest restaurants alongside his son, Jesse. Attilios and Modern Malt were among his favorites while also becoming a familiar figure at local watering holes. Ron is survived by his ex-wife, Julie (Arnold) Morrissey and three children, Jesse Magoon of Brewerton, NY, Shannan (Jeremiah) Renk of Clay, NY, and Jaimee (Mathew) Morrissey of Syracuse, NY. He had one beloved grandchild, Madeline Renk, with another granddaughter on the way. Ron is also survived by 10 of his siblings: Judy, Jim (Linda), Beth, Tom (Debbie), John (Marge) Dick, Mary Kay (Peter), Shelly, Beth, Maureen (Denny), and Joanni (Gary) and 19 nieces and nephews: Michael, Amy, Christine, Gina, Karen, Wendi, John Jr, Kate, Harry, David, Austin, Kendra, Jason, Kyle, Chris, Audrey, Sharon, Logan, Melanie. Great nieces and nephews Laney, Jasper, Avery, Jack, Oliver, Fineas, Evan, Maggie, Mila, Theo, Robbie, and Waylon. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Mary (Elfering) Morrissey, brothers Michael Morrissey and Billy Morrissey, sister Carol Morrissey, and beloved dog Gracie May. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Ron requested a hike up Mount Mansfield in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Crown Point Youth Commission. Checks made out to Crown Point Youth Commission can be mailed to P.O. Box 444, Crown Point NY 12928, c/o Linda Woods.
