Obituary of Gail Krauss
Gail Elizabeth Krauss passed away on April 13, 2024 at home in Syracuse, NY. She was born on October 11, 1945 in Catskill, NY and was the only child of Johanna (Sautner) Overbaugh and Donald Layden Overbaugh.
Gail attended Saint Patrick’s High School in Catskill and then went on to Mount Saint Mary and Saint Rose Colleges. Gail taught as a substitute teacher at Catskill High School and was beloved by the students and teaching faculty. After raising her family, she went into to the field of social work and was employed at Coarc of Columbia County, NY. Later in life, Gail worked in retail as a Customer Service Manager at Marshalls in Kingston, NY. While living in Catskill, she volunteered as an educator at The Catskill Boys Club, and with Meals on Wheels.
Gail loved to talk and visit, and she had many friends both at work and socially. She also loved animals, especially her cats, but was also passionate about wildlife. Gail loved to decorate her homes. She was an avid shopper and always looking for bargains for herself and others. Gail will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Gail was predeceased by her first husband, Otto Meili. She is survived by her daughter Jeanette Myshrall (Dan) of Syracuse, NY, and her son Colonel John Meili (Cindy) of Elbridge, NY, her grandchildren Shayna and Samson Myshrall, and Ryan (Morgan) and Jeremy Meili, and her great grandson, Preston Meili. Her second husband, Richard Krauss, resides in Syracuse.
Gail will be interred at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery in Catskill, NY at a private service. A reception in celebration of Gail’s life will be held in Catskill sometime this summer and will be announced in the coming months.
