Obituary of Rev James Howard Price, ED.D
James Price passed peacefully August 8, 2024, surrounded by his family while hearing stories of
his early life. Jim was born August 4, 1930, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to James Simeon and LaRue Mary
Fosco Price. Jim’s parents were from England, and he was raised in Latrobe. He spent his childhood
hiking, picking blueberries, and building the family home. He was social, popular and athletic as a kid,
and he played the trumpet at church. In 1951, Jim joined the Navy, and was on active duty in NYC
through 1955. He worked at a roller rink and Kennametal in Latrobe, before attending Findley College
where he earned a Bachelor’s in History. He attended Oberlin School of Theology for a Bachelors in
Divinity. At Oberlin, Jim met Susan Woodruff and was married in 1961. Jim was ordained in the United
Methodist Church as a minister and worked at Findley United Methodist Church in Ohio.
In 1963, Jim moved to Syracuse to attend Syracuse University where he earned a Doctorate in
Religious Education, and raise two daughters, Katherine and Carolyn. He worked as the Director of the
ARC for three years, served as the Protestant Chaplain at the Syracuse Development Center for 27 years,
and served as a part time pastor at the Mottville United Methodist Church for 7 years. Jim also served as
the Minister of Education at Pebble Hill Church, and served at the Brighton Family Center. Once Jim
retired, he volunteered as a public school aid, and was hired as a substitute school teacher.
Jim loved to ice skate, read, ride bikes, sing in choir, drive his boat, travel to California to visit
grand-children, travel on cruises, and sing and dance to polka songs. He is survived by his wife Susan, his
two daughters Kathy (married to Robert Tweidt) and Carolyn, his two grandchildren Kyle and Danielle
(married to Zachary Spuur), his niece Cheryl (married to the late Anthony Alesi), and his great-nephews
