Obituary of Rae Cornwell

Please share a memory of Rae to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved Rae Cornwell, 86, of Cicero, NY, peacefully began her heavenly journey on Friday, September 13, 2024,

enveloped in the warmth of her loving family. Rae was born in 1938 to Raymond and Sylvia Young (Vrooman) in the picturesque town of Hammondsport, NY.

Throughout her life, Rae wove a beautiful tapestry of love that touched all

who knew her. A devoted follower of Jesus, Rae held her faith as a cornerstone of her life. She was predeceased in 2015 by her husband of 56 years, Donald Cornwell, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories.

Rae found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader, often lost in the pages of mystery and romance novels. Her quick mind and love for wordplay were evident in her passion for crossword puzzles, which she tackled with enthusiasm and skill. Rae also had a playful spirit, exemplified by her love for bingo. Her weekly trips to the VFW in Mattydale were a cherished ritual, filled with friendship, laughter, and the thrill of the game.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Jennifer) Cornwell of Syracuse, NY, Brian Cornwell and his fiancée, Alona

Cruz, of Liverpool, NY, and Vicki (George) Moreau of Manlius, NY; her grandchildren, Justin (Savanna) Webb, Jacob

Webb (Kaela Gallagher), Sarah Cornwell, Caleb Cornwell, and Samuel Cornwell; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Rae’s life was a testament to the power of faith, family, and finding happiness in everyday moments. Her warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed.

At Rae’s request, a private graveside service North Syracuse Cemetery.
