Obituary of Robert P Fisher

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert P. Fisher, 64, passed away on October 31st at Crouse Hospital, with family at his side, after seven months of declining health.

Born in Syracuse, NY, he was the son of Robert J. (Bob) Fisher and Mary Carol (Kennedy) Fisher. He graduated from West Genesee High School and BOCES and enjoyed friendships with many of his Wildcat schoolmates throughout his life. He also had many friends from Bishop Ludden High School, which his siblings attended. He never tired of pointing out the many ways in which he found the Wildcats to be superior to the Gaelic Knights.

Robert worked during much of his life at Consolidated Industries and other workshops made possible by Arc of Onondaga and its local business partners.

A regular at Limp Lizard on Onondaga Boulevard, where his unique character was enjoyed and celebrated for nearly two decades, Robert loved pro wrestling, heavy metal, riding his bike (fondly called his “truck”), and the New York Yankees. Although he and his brother enjoyed being together in his hospital room for Game 5 of the World Series, they did not enjoy watching the Yankees blow a five-run lead to end their season.

He is survived by his brother, William Fisher, and sister, Carol Ann Fisher. He was predeceased by his parents and by his beloved brother, Daniel Fisher. He loved and was loved back by his Fisher nieces and nephews: Dan, Sara, John, Michaela, and Billy. Their name for him – at his insistence – was Big Bad Uncle Meanie (BBUM). BBUM had a passion for dogs and volunteered at Helping Hounds Dog Rescue. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of dog breeds and knew the name and owner’s name of every dog along his bike routes. He was part of a large extended family that will miss him and the laughter that always ensued when they were together.
