Obituary of Dorothy Marie Kotowicz Mnick
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Marie Kotowicz Mnick, 86, passed to her new adventure on August 1, 2015. Mrs. Mnick will be remembered for her poise, courage and sharp wit. She loved to travel. After a career in the restaurant and upon her early widowhood, she earned her degree with high honor from Onondaga Community College to become a Reading Specialist. "Ms. M" touched hundreds of Syracuse School District students with her patience, kindness and perserverence. She always kept a box of warm clothes and snacks in the classroom for those who needed. She lived her faith in the service of God as a Diocesan CCD Instructor. Dorothy enjoyed membership in the Columbiettes of the Bishop Curley Council 3717, the Auxilary of Post 1 of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, as President of Sacred Heart Mother's Club, and as a driving force of the early Barge Canal Safety Committee. In her later years she had many adventures with the Western Hills and Sacred Heart Seniors Clubs. She loved to play Scrabble, do crossword puzzles, and watch the world from her beloved front porch. Mrs. Mnick was predeceased by her husband Felix and sons David and Gregory. She leaves her children Christine “Krysia” of Rochester, Philip (Evelyn) of Syracuse, grandsons Derrick (Jennifer), Christian and Jeffrey, great-grandchildren Parker and Emmerson, sister Frances Sojka, nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends. Her nieces Alexandra Galler, Frederica Partridge and Lynne LaCourse were particularly dear to her. A Memorial Mass in Celebration of Dorothy's life will be on Friday, August 21st, at 10:30 AM at The Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, please remember her with a contribution to the Ronald McDonald House or the charity of your choice.
