Dear George,
My deepest sympathies on the passing of your young sister. Although I did not know her I remember you mentioned how much care she and your sisters took of your mother. We hope you and your family are comforted with the memories of her many kindnesses and the accolades of so many.

I was so sad to hear of Callie's passing. Callie was one of the first people I met when I began teaching at Porter School. Right from the start she was helpful and a friend. She was a source of knowledge for students and teachers. Even though I did not see Callie often in recent years, when I did see her she showed a sincere interest in me and my family. It was always great " catching up" and remembering our great years at Porter. Callie was special in so many ways and will so be missed here on Earth. However, I bet Walt Disney is loving her company in heaven!

Callie was the first teacher I had the privilege to work with as a first-year teacher. I was drawn in by her creativity and passion to work with our "kids ", since neither of us had any, we took each one to heart as though they were our own. We worked long hours, created amazing lessons and had fun. She also reeled me on to learn her love of mathematics...always looking for patterns in everything. She was always thoughtful and called me on my birthday. On her 50th we went to Bridges of Madison county...with puffy eyes we left the theatre and went and had a big sundae to drown our sorrows. We also had great memories of working on the top Floor of St. Patrick's church while Porter was going through renovations. As I bounded up the stairs, she laughed and took one step at a time as she rolled her cart carefully up each step. We always went home in the dark. We shared a love of kids, teaching and mathematics amongst a few other things such as chocolate! What a gal, what a lovely spirit and what memories to hold on to to get me up when I'm feeling down. My sincere condolences to those who are survived by her. blessings. Brenda

I had the pleasure of working with Callie at Porter as a new teacher and as a staff development specialist. Her focus was always the students and she was creative in her teaching materials and methods. She will be remembered by many students and educators as dedicated and hard working. RIP

I, too, also worked with Callie for fourteen years at Porter School. Together, we spent raising funds so we could take a a large group of kids to Florida to go to a science museum there and to enter DisneyWorld before the rest of the public was allowed to enter, and oh, so much more. Callie organized everything perfectly and I helped her somewhat by chaperoning it. We were able to bring many students from all walks of life, both the haves and the have nots. These kids had an amazing time building professional grade rockets, experimenting with a whole list of other science, technology, engineering, and math skills. WE/US EDUCATORS NOW CALL THAT STEM CURRICULUM. WE GOT TO EXPERIENCE ALL OF THIS AT DISNEYWORLD! Callie was devoted her life to, in my opinion, is one of the most noble career paths one could choose. Callie was ahead of her time. WE taught in a needy school then. Callie also treated others with the respect and dignity that ALL PEOPLE deserve. Callie cared for many, many people and was an active member to others. I know she is in paradise. God needed her angel home to rest and enjoy her very blessed life. Guess what, others she touched along the way are carrying her passions, her dreams, her reality as they walk through this journey we call life. Like many have previously shared, she will be greatly missed and many tears will be shed. She often spoke of her nieces and nephews, along with other family relatives and friends. They ARE HER LIFE as well. Be happy today. I apologize for not being able to wear black tomorrow as I come to pay my respects. I'm remembering all the books Callie shared with me, among other things. I apologize to those who may make fun of how I've written this with no paragraphs and may have made other grammatical, syntactical, spelling type error. From the bottom of my heart, in respect to Miss P(it took a long time for me to spell it right or even say her last name) you are one of the many true born natural teachers from Porter who have been in the trenches, you have inspired me to do better, be better. God Bless You ALL!

The birthday group will miss you so much. I can picture you at Disney when we would get of Thunder Mountain and you would run to get right back on. They were great time. Thank you for your years of friendship. Based on our conversations I could tell that you loved teaching. The comments by former students show that love and the wonderful impact you had on many children. God bless you.
Love, Meg

I was blessed to have Ms Pappastavrou for both 5th and 6th grade. In 6th grade she took the class to FLorida to visit Nasa. I will never forget her, she was the first teacher to make a difference for me. You could tell she really cared. I'm now 30 and still talked to her a few times a year. I will miss her <3

Ms Pappastavrou was my 3rd, 5th and 6th grade teacher at Porter in the early 90's.. Our class was the first that you took to Florida.. You were one of the best teachers I've ever had! You made learning fun.. I wished that my kids would have a teacher just like you, then realized your not replaceable.. You were the first to ever yell at me and send me to another class for a time out lol.. I loved you as family! You will be greatly missed! Rest easy Ms P! Until we meet again!

I am shocked and saddened by this news. Mty thoughts and prayers are with the family...many of whom I have been able to meet through Callie's trips to Disney World. Since I moved to Orlando in 2001, I have looked forward to spending time with Callie at Disney. Just this week, I was wondering when she would be in town soon. I've enjoyed each year attending EPCOT's Holiday Processional with her. She always loved it!! Christmas just won't be the same not attending with her this year. Even above Disney is the that I will always appreciate everything she has done for me in helping me to become the teacher I am today. My time as her student teacher is priceless...she helped me to realize that teaching truly was the path I'd like to take. Thank you, Callie!! You will never be forgotten!!

My deepest sympathies to all of Callie's family. I worked with Callie at Porter for 23 years and she was the cornerstone of Porter in my opinion. She was all about the kids and what was good for them, always searching and implementing ways to reach them. She will be sadly missed by us all.

I taught with Callie at Porter School for many years. She was a dedicated teacher and a trusted friend. She was the organizer of many lunches for the retirees. She was everything "Porter". She will be truly missed. Disney should have a parade in her honor. RIP Callie. My condolences to her siblings and all her beloved nieces and nephews. She loved you all so much.

The Class of '61, Syracuse Cental Tech HS, is very saddened by the passing of our Steering Committee member and dear friend, Callie Ann. She was a diligent and competence worker who helped us stay together for fifty-five years.
Additionally, cAllie Ann was a fine teacher who gave her students her all. Personally, I knew her as my classmate in high school and in college as well as my colleague in the SCSD and my partner on the Class Steering Committee. Callie Ann did everything as the true professional that she was. May she be able to run like the wind in her next life.

My friendship w/ Callie goes back to late 1960's at Porter School. She was a great teacher who loved each & everyone of her students. The teaching profession has lost one of its best. I'm sure the lights at Disney will be dimmed in her honor & Mickey will carry a heavy heart for his friend. Rest in Peace Callie-
