Obituary of Philip Gannon Kelley

Philip Gannon Kelley, 88, died Thursday, December 18, 2015 at Community Hospital. Phil was born June 11, 1927 in Syracuse, NY. He graduated from CBA and from the University of Notre Dame. He served in the Navy during WWII. He had a long, active career in insurance as the owner of the Phil Kelley Agency, and was a Certified Insurance Counselor. As a young businessman he was the president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, served on the Executive Board of Boy Scouts of America, Jail Ministry, YMCA, Sara House Board of Directors, was Vice President of the Board of Trustees of St. Camillus, and helped form the Onondaga Hill Free Library. In 2000 he was a recipient of the Post Standard Lifetime Achievement/Jefferson Award. He was a past president of the CNY Chapter of the Notre Dame Club, served on the Onondaga County Planning Board, Volunteered at Jail Ministry of Syracuse, and served on the Onondaga Council on Alcoholism. Phil was at his happiest when assisting others. For years he was in an early morning exercise class at the YMCA, and especially loved playing volleyball. Phil was predeceased by his parents, George B. G. Kelley and Mabel Harrigan Kelley, as well as his two daughters, Sally Kelley Ryan and Mary Patricia Kelley. He is survived by his wife, Ann Stack Kelley (Tommy); his sons, Gannon, Michael and Brian; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Phil has donated his body to Upstate University Medical Center. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 29 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 300 Valley Drive. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY, 441 W Kirkpatrick St., 13204, or to Jail Ministry, 259 E.
