Sharon & Mary Beth: As everyone knows Dave was a great friend and we will always remember him and the time you both came to State College, PA to visit us for the Penn State-SU football game along with Donna & Larry. One of a few great times to reflect on. It is great that some high school friendships go on. Your love for each other will give you strength to go on. Our prayers will always be there also. Mary Jane

Sharon, I found out of David's passing through my friend Pattie Robinson Smith. I never knew David, but knew from you he was a very special man. After reading all these notes I guess I missed out on knowing a very special Husband, Father, Coach and friend. My deepest sympathy to you and your daughter as you struggle through these most difficult days. May God keep you both safe in the palm of his hand and may all your memories help ease the pain. I live in Orlando, so I am sending hugs and lots of love from afar, but you are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Mary

The Bach family,
Words cannot express my sadness upon learning of the passing of your loved one and my Coach. Coach came into my life when I was angry 14 year old who had just lost his dad and along with Phil Felice and Coach Scott Brisson maintained a positive male influence on me that still affects me today. My deepest condolences to all of you and gratitude to you Mrs. Bach for sharing him with us kids.

Dear Sharon & Mary Beth, Words never seem adequate at a time like this. Dave was never short on words before his illness. I remember him sitting on the bench during a Sacred Heart High School baseball game and Dave was cheering on his team ... non-stop. Father 'O' finally yelled with a smile: "Bach, shut up!" Dave was the ultimate sports fan. I have so many memories ... all wonderful. There's not many people you can say that about. Although he has suffered for so very long, his presence on this Earth is greatly missed. It is a sad day knowing he is no longer with us. I am glad, though, that is suffering is over. Another good one has left us.

To Dave's Family: Please accept our condolences on news of Dave's passing. While we did not get a chance to meet often, Dave would always take time to exchange words with us when would come to Syracuse for Easter Sunday Mass or other special event. Dave was always the enthusiastic sports fan and one of the strongest supporters of SU and Sacred Heart. If Dave counted you as a friend you knew that you could count on him. Our prayers go out to the family during this difficult time. God Bless

He always made sure he stopped to say hi. I am proud to have known him. I am sure Dave and my brother, Jimmy, are now talking basketball..two angels, gone way too early..My prayers and love are with all of you.

To Dave's family. Your Dave coached the Harrington boys,Brian and Mike when they played c.y.o. basketball for Sacred Heart. A gentle giant who taught them it was ok to lose as long as you played your heart out. Never did we have a worry when we knew our boys were being coached by Dave and Larry Lukowski. This was back in the late 70's and early 80's when the c.y.o. league was like the old parochial league drawing big crowds on a Sunday nite. Our sons have grown to be fine men and great dads and I believe Dave and his friend Larry played a big part in this.So grateful he was there for our sons. And to think he spent all that time coaching as a volunteer. Bless you in your time of sorrow. The Harrington Family

Sharon, Mary Beth and Joe,
Though I had lost touch with Dave over several decades and never met either you, Sharon or you, Mary Beth, I feel a deep sadness over Dave's departure. As his brother's, Joe's, friend, Dave was always friendly toward me; he was positive and
ready to smile. I will keep Dave and the three of you in my prayers.

Heaven has welcomed SU's no. 1 supporter. I'm sure he's up there now, talking with Coach Ben on the team this year and what he should have done while he was coaching and if they have a way to get Twin Trees pizza up there, I'm sure he has one! David was the epitome of a good man, he was a wonderful devoted husband and father. He was a great friend to all of us and terrific godparent to our Christopher. We will never forget the cookouts, ragging on him for leaving SU games early, the good spirited arguments about SU and its fortunes or lack thereof for the upcoming season, whether it be football, basketball or lacrosse. There are so many stories we can relate, all good, but two stand out for us. The first is Dave the moving man, always sought after from all of his friends as we were growing up.He was helping us move from our second apartment on Emerson Avenue, Charlene 8+ months pregnant, when the stand up freezer we had decided to start coming off the sled. Dave was below it and stuck his strong hand out there and stopped it with one hand, without any effort ,and continued his conversation with me. I was standing below him and said something like My God, one hand? He shrugged his shoulders and put the other hand on it and said, I can do two if you like and continued the conversation as if nothing had happened, with him holding the freezer while the other helpers rushed to get it back on the sled. The second is a perfect example of Dave's devotion to SU. Good old SU had stunk up the Dome against a lousy Rutgers team back in 1984, losing 19-0. The next opponent was Nebraska, #1 in the nation and the team that clobbered the Orange the year before in Lincoln Nebraska by a score of 63-7. Dave told me and all that not to worry, SU would beat Nebraska. We all thought he obviously was crazy and laughed at him. He however was unwavering in his belief and his words still resonate with me "you heard it here first", he said, "SU wins by a touchdown or more". Well you all know what happened.
We have all lost somebody special, but we are all so blessed for having him a part of our lives these many years. God bless Sharon and Mary Beth and may the Lord help you through this sad time.

Please know you both are in our prayers and thoughts. We loved David so much and shared so many laughs and good times in years past. I never forgot David and he never forgot me every March 25 & 26. I was dumbfounded when his card was returned to me this year. I found out why just last evening prior to contacting Charlie.
Dave, I bet my mom met you in heaven with open arms. The two of us loved you very much. Please show our triplets how to shoot a foul shot up there..ok? We will never forget you but I will miss my annual card.
