September 13, 2008 Warren Sayles Turnbull, formerly of Brewerton, passed away Saturday, September 13th, just two days short of his 82nd birthday. His 3 year Alzheimer’s journey ended peacefully at Menorah Park, where he was a resident for a year. He continued to enjoy his NASCAR races, old movies and old tunes during that time. Warren graduated from North Syracuse High School, where he lettered in basketball and football. An Army veteran of WWII, Warren served with the B Battery 80th Field Artillery in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign. He retired after 37 years at Carrier Corporation where he worked as a foreman in TR19. He also worked part time as a salesman for Denman Pontiac and Chuck Morgan Inc. Chrysler, both located in Brewerton. After retirement Warren worked for Lehr Land Surveyors. Warren’s community involvement included a lifetime membership in the Brewerton Volunteer Fire Department, Assistant Scoutmaster and treasurer for Boy Scout Troop #112 , the Fort Brewerton Masonic Lodge #256. He belonged to the Brewerton United Methodist Church. Warren proudly donated 25 gallons of blood through the American Red Cross. Warren was active member in the Onondaga Kennel Association. With his wife Roberta, he owned and bred English Bulldogs. Warren showed his own bulldogs and those of many others throughout the northeast. He was especially proud of his Champion “Fred” and walked in many St. Patrick’s Day parades with “Ralph”. He is predeceased by his wife Roberta Barclay Turnbull; his parents George and Clarabel Turnbull and his brother, Dick Turnbull. He is survived by his 3 daughters: Laurie (Charlie) Hollis of Syracuse, Lisa (Daniel) Cassell of New Harford, CT and Lynn (Terry) Nares of Westvale and his son Scott (Ellen) Turnbull of Essex Junction, VT. His 11 grandchildren: Andrew, Jillian and Eileen Hollis, Timothy and Benjamin Cassell, Christina Cassell Gray, Matthew, Kathryn and Cara Turnbull and Ella and Sophie Nares; His close friend Marion Ford; His sister-in-laws Edith Morgan and Marjorie Turnbull; Several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Gathering: will be held Friday, September 26, 2008, 5 to 7pm with services to follow at Hollis Funeral Home. Cremation: Chenango Valley Crematory, Earlville, NY The family requests that donations may be made to the American Red Cross "http://www.redcross.org"
