I'm late to this. However, as a child this woman terrified me. She was always caring, but not always open about it that I could see. As I grew up, I got to know her on another level. I found out that she was an incredible woman with a big heart and stories for days. We grew close through letters and phone calls. I am supremely grateful that I got the quality time with her that could bring us together like that. She still comes to mind often. Love you and miss you.

Sad to hear of Athena's passing. She was a lovely lady whose company was always enjoyable. She and Mary Jane played many games of cut-throat Scrabble and certainly I never was a winner playing against either of them! Condolences to her family.

Besides her grandchildren mentioned, her great-grandchildren are Jessica and James Stoneburg; Morgan Scott-Ellis Hemler; Sarah Scott-Ellis Rock; Aiden and Zoe Delgado; Amelia and Luis Addicott; Ivy Walsh Sugrue-Walrath; Catherine and Rowan Walsh; Brynn, Camille and Alexis Lily Antzak. Her great-great grandchild is Lila Scott-Ellis.

Athena was a real mother figure to me and I will miss her immensely. I just loved her sense of humor, her twinkling Irish eyes, her endearing smile, and her big heart. I especially appreciated how Athena and your family accepted me as if I was family. It was an honor to be of support to you all during her final days. Words are never sufficient at a time like this. Just know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers and that you have my deepest sympathy. Love, David
