Obituary of Robert J. Klimek

July 24, 2012 Robert J. Klimek, 80, of Onondaga Hill, New York entered eternity peacefully on Tuesday afternoon at Crouse Hospital surrounded by his devoted family. Robert was born on October 23, 1931 in Syracuse to Joseph and Josephine (Romaszewska) Klimek. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1945 and Vocational High School in 1949. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy Reserve as an Airdale during the Korean War. He applied his knowledge attained as an avionics technician in the Navy into a distinguished career as a radar specialist with the General Electric Corporation's Space Track program. Robert successfully completed multiple long term postings in Washington State and Turkey during the height of the Cold War. Robert enjoyed golfing with his friends, "The Rogues," and was an avid follower of Syracuse University basketball, football, lacrosse and the New York Yankees. Robert was a master crossword puzzle solver. He always looked forward to reconnecting with his General Electric pals at the annual clambake and spending time with his classmates during Vocational High School reunions. He was a wonderful pet owner to his toy poodle Spike and his cat Frisky, whom he rescued as a kitten while working in Turkey. Robert was devoted to his Roman Catholic faith and modeled its tenets in his daily life by quietly leading through example. He was a loyal communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a member of the Polish Home. He loved and cared deeply for his wife, children, and extended family. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Linda (Eggleston) Klimek; three step-sons, Kevin Schumacher of Camillus, Mark Schumacher of Liverpool, and Brett Schumacher of Camillus; granddaughter Stella Giselle Schumacher; sister Joan Pontello; nieces Carol Lombardo and Patricia Pontello; and nephew Joseph Pontello. Robert's family would like to offer their gratitude to the professional and compassionate medical staff that cared for him at Crouse Hospital and to Father Andrew E.
