Thanks to all that posted condolences. It meant a great deal to the family.
To any that may be interested, I believe that John is looking down on us from heaven. I say this not because he was a good person or for all the help he was too many but, because of the following encounter: In 1992 John was sentenced to 15 years in prison for dealing drugs. When I spoke to him in the city jail he was broken and scared. I assured him that God still loved him and had a plan for his life. I shared the filling verses from the Bible: Rom 3:23, Rom. 6:23, and Rom !0:9-10. John then prayed to the Lord Jesus asking for forgiveness of his sins and asked Jesus to come into his heart and save him. I believe that John was sincere and that he was born again that day. I would not say that John, or any of us, lived a perfect life from that moment until his death in 2016. I do believe God is faithful when He says in His word, "whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved". Rom 10:13. If you are reading this today, I believe the Lord has led you to these words, call upon Him and you also will have eternal life.

To the Polak family and extended family, I am so sorry your loss.this is such a tragedy to lose John especially so young and under such dreadful , senseless circumstances. I will always remember the good in him(there was a lot) my heart aches for all of his children that now grow up without there dad as well as their mothers who are left behind to deal with their child's loss. As a child, a young adult and as a grown man John had this charm about him. He always knew what to say or do to make me smile and feel good. If we saw each other regularly or if years had past it didn't matter. It was always as if it has been just yesterday. Our world suffers a great loss because the John I knew had a good heart.
