Obituary of Walter Louis Matwiejow

Walter Louis Matwiejow, 82, of Watkins Glen, NY died Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, NY.

Mr. Matwiejow was born in Penn Yan, NY on February 11, 1935 to the late Walter Matwiejow and Luella M. Mathews (Wixson). He graduated from Dundee Central High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Army, from which was honorably discharged in 1958. He was a lifetime resident of the Dundee-Elmira-Watkins Glen area.

Walter is survived by five of his seven loving children who will cherish his memory: Kim Matwiejow of St. Louis, MO; Walter Louis Matwiejow Jr. of Tyrone, NY; Reagan Matwiejow (Paul Simpson) of Bradford, NY; Chris Matwiejow of Saranac Lake, NY; and Matt (Sara) Matwiejow of Bradford, NY. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his brother Stanley Matwiejow of Bend, OR; his sister Helen Dixon of Tyrone, NY; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.

He is predeceased by two daughters, Susan Pulvino of Savona, NY and Zina Matwiejow of Carollton, MO.

A memorial service will be held on September 28, 2017 at 6 pm at the Bradford Baptist Church, 2788 Yawger Hill Rd, Bradford, NY, 14815. Walter’s ashes will be placed in the Memorial Wall at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
