Obituary of Stanley Thomas Cole
Stanley Thomas (Tom) Cole passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and canine friends on October 20, 2017 following a long battle with lung cancer. Tom was born September 18,1947 in St. Albans, VT to Malcolm and Ruth (Earle) Cole. Tom served honorably in the US Army. Throughout his life, Tom worked as a heavy equipment operator, crop farmer, long distance truck driver and most recently as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Sempronius. Tom loved animals and his greatest joy came from time spent with his grandchildren. Tom is survived by brothers Malcolm (Carol) Cole and Cady Cole, daughters Melisa (Erick) Dodge and Michelle Cole (Jimmy Piscitelli), granddaughters Meaghan and Madison Bossard, grandson Brennan Carr and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his former wife, Linda (Frost) Cole in 1995. Tom’s family would like to thank the entire staff of nurses, therapists, technologists, clerical workers and physicians at the Syracuse VA Medical Center for the care, kindness, respect and compassion given to Tom and his family throughout his illness. Tom’s final days were filled with friends, family and his canine companions all of whom brought him great joy, laughter, love and peace. The family is grateful for the support and services provided by the Hospice of the Finger Lakes and Tom’s honorary daughter, Ms Brenda Hale, for making our dad’s final days as comfortable and dignified as possible, fulfilling Tom’s wish to pass at home. There are no services per Tom’s request and his final selfless deed was his Anatomical gift to Upstate Medical University, with arrangements provided by Hollis Funeral Home. Donations in Tom’s honor can be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Ste 420r Rockville, MD 20850 or Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021.
