Obituary of Irene T. Solak

Irene T. Solak December 17, 2013 Irene T. Solak of Syracuse passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 17th, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Syracuse in 1919, she attended Sacred Heart School and received both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from SU. In 1941 she began her 40 year career in the Syracuse city schools. She was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and was a member of its' Rosary Society. She served as President of the Ladies' Auxiliary of PLAV, and was a member of Polish Home, VAVS, The Polish Heritage Club, the Orchard Lake Society and American Legion Post 41. She and our father had 30+ years of a wonderful retirement together. They participated in many Elderhostel programs throughout the US, Canada, Hawaii and Alaska, and visited Poland twice. Their shared love of learning and their Polish heritage took them to many places. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Walter. She is survived by children Rene, Alicia, James, Mark and their spouses, 5 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, her brother John, and her beloved feline companion, Kichu. Calling hours will be at Hollis Funeral Home 1105 W. Genesee St Syracuse on Friday from 4 to 7PM. Funeral service will be held at 8AM at Hollis Funeral Home, and a mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Basilica at 9AM.
