Obituary of Chester Halczyn

August 26, 2012 Chet Halczyn, 91 of Wesley Chapel, Florida died at Memorial Hospital in Tampa. He was born, raised and lived most of his life in the Syracuse Camillus/Fairmount Hills area. He retired from Chrysler in Syracuse in 1979 after working for 35 years as a Dispatcher. Prior he was a Medic in the US Army and served during WWII landing at Normandy. While serving as a Medic he received a Purple Heart in France, a Purple Heart in Germany and the Bronze Star, Oak Leaf Cluster, Service Cross, Medal for Merit, and the Conspicuous Service Star. He was an avid fisherman and could be found many days on his boat on the local lakes. He was also on the local Bowling team and won many championships in the Syracuse Bowling leagues. Chet is survived by his son Robert ( Eileen) and grandson Stephen ( Brianna) all of Florida. He had several nephews and nieces. He is pre-deceased by his wife Sophie (Malinowski) Halczyn, along with his Mother (Anastasia) and Father (Mikolaj) Halczyn both originally born in the Ukraine. Along his pre-deceased brothers/sisters Michael, Thomas, George, William, Joseph, Barbara, Anna, and Mary. Calling hours: Friday 4 to7pm Hollis Funeral Home 1105 W.
